COURSE OVERVIEW:
This lecture provides a practical, referral-focused overview of TMJ arthroscopy within an interdisciplinary TMD care model. Emphasis is placed on clinical decision-making, appropriate referral timing, expected outcomes, and limitations of arthroscopic management. Participants will gain practical clarity on when surgical consultation is appropriate, grounded in evidence-based referral decision-making and realistic expectations. A light dinner will be served.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Identify clinical scenarios warranting referral for TMJ surgical evaluation
- Distinguish candidates for continued conservative care from those warranting surgical
consultation - Describe goals, outcomes, and limitations of TMJ arthroscopy
- Integrate TMJ arthroscopy within an interdisciplinary TMD treatment algorithm
INTENDED AUDIENCE:
Dentists, physicians, physical therapists, chiropractors, hygienists, and other healthcare providers involved in TMD care.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr. Vyas is a board-certified and fellowship-trained Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon in private practice in Glenview, Illinois. He serves as an attending surgeon at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Endeavor Health Hospitals. Dr. Vyas has published nationally and internationally and maintains a broad clinical practice across adult and pediatric oral & maxillofacial surgery.
